Understanding the Difference
Ceramic coating and paint protection film (PPF) are both paint protection products, but they protect against different things. Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to your clear coat, providing chemical protection (UV, bird droppings, tree sap, oxidation) and a hydrophobic finish. PPF is a physical, self-healing film that protects against rock chips, scratches, and physical impact damage.
When to Choose Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating is ideal if your primary concerns are UV protection, chemical resistance, easy maintenance, and enhanced gloss. It's more affordable than PPF and covers the entire vehicle easily. Ceramic coating is the best choice for most daily drivers that aren't regularly exposed to rock chips or gravel roads.
When to Choose PPF
PPF is the right choice if you need physical impact protection — especially on high-impact areas like the front bumper, hood, fenders, and side mirrors. PPF is self-healing, meaning light scratches disappear with heat. It's ideal for new vehicles, high-end cars, or anyone who drives on highways with heavy debris.
The Best of Both Worlds
Many AquaLux clients choose to combine PPF on high-impact areas (front bumper, hood, fenders) with ceramic coating over the entire vehicle — including on top of the PPF. This gives you physical protection where you need it most and chemical/UV protection everywhere. Contact us at (760) 622-3820 to discuss the best protection strategy for your vehicle.
